Just Run Pro Training

The first annual JR Redmond Just Run Pro Training Camp was recently held at Little Mountain, Field of Dreams in Salmon Arm. To say it was a huge success does not do it justice. On day one we brought together a group of kids that appeared to have no rhythm and questionable co-ordination. JR provided some intense direction and some great words of advise and just 2 days later we watched a great group of athletes strut their stuff. It was hard to believe that they were the same boys. Each day provided a great deal of sweat, an equal measure of laughter for parents and players alike and some heartfelt words of wisdom from JR Redmond. Winding up day three, we enjoyed a large gathering of SMFA families for an outdoor BBQ potluck dinner and some socializing.  We revealed the 2011 Shuswap Football T-Shirt design and gave the first, hot off the press, shirt out to Mr. Redmond. We all appreciated that he was wearing our shirt the next day when the Observer photographer was at the field. Please check out the August 10th issue of the Salmon Arm Observer to view the photo for yourself! The camp ended on Saturday and the change in our athletes was remarkable. I truly believe that we will be able to pick out the camp alumni on the field this season as they put their recently acquired knowledge and skills to work. We are already planning and looking forward to the 2012 camp. Hope to see you there!

Criminal Record Checks

This year we are required to have all volunteers that work directly with kids complete a background check. This requires two documents that would need to be completed:

Under the Criminal Records Review Act, individuals working with and having unsupervised access to children must complete a Criminal Record Check for their authorized organization. This authorization is submitted to the Criminal Records Review Program for review. In order to complete this process please print a consent form and letter of request from SMFA. Present these documents at your local RCMP detachment where the process will be carried out. Upon completion please submit the document that you receive from the RMCP to the SMFA president. Your Criminal Background Check will remain confidential and be kept on file for a period of one year following which it will be returned to you or destroyed at your request.

Bill's Bottle Depot

There is an account set up at Bill's Bottle Depot where anyone can donate the proceeds of their bottle returns to SMFA. You just have to tell the staff and they will apply your donation to our account. Proceeds go directly to the kids in the form of travel and entertainment expenses.

Football Equipment

Chevy's (located in the Sun Wave Centre building) will be carrying football equipment such as cleats, mouthguards etc. starting at the beginning of May. They are a regular sponsor of our annual raffle and we can show our appreciation by checking out their inventory.
