May Newsletter

(Posted: Friday, May 22/2009)

Welcome, everyone to the beginning of our 11th season of football in the Shuswap. Now that spring camps are underway, we want to especially welcome the new players and parents to our programs. Football, more than any sport, offers youth of all sizes and statures the opportunity to participate in the "ulitimate team game" where each and every player's role is key to success on the field. The "Life Skills " that football teaches go along way in assisting our youth in becoming caring and compassionate citizens in their schools and communities. This is the true measure of Shuswap Minor Football's success.

As part of our 2009 year, SMFA is thrilled to announce that two exciting events, which became part of last year's 10 year celebrations, will be held again this year. First we will be hosting the "Kamloops Broncos" and the "Okanagan Sun" in a BCFC Junior football exhibition game. This an opportunity to not only showcase two of the best Junior teams in BC, but also raise some funds to support our local programs. Both teams wish all proceeds from the game to go to SMFA and we thank the Broncos and the Sun for their generosity. Gameday is Sunday, July 26th, kickoff 1pm at Little Mountain Sportsplex. Admission is $5. per adult, students $2. , kids 5 yrs. and under free. All teams will be asked to assist with this event as they did last year. Team parents will be contacting players for their assistance as July approaches.

The second event to be held is "Football Day in Salmon Arm". The date is Saturday, Sept. 19th at Little Mountain. On this day, all teams play home games back to back with special events mixed in. It is a great opportunity to showcase our programs and celebrate football in the Shuswap. Pee Wee Colts, JB Broncos, Bantam Chargers and SAS Golds, this year, will be hosting teams from Kamloops. Games will begin with the Pee wees at 10am and end with the SAS Golds at 4pm. More info will be forthcoming as the day draws near.

Spring Newsletter

(Posted: Monday, March 30/2009)

Welcome to the 2009 football year. Hope everyone wintered well. Our first item is the Parent/Player Information Night to be held at Little Mountain Fieldhouse April 23rd, 7pm. This is mainly for "new football people" but all are welcome to attend. The second big item is our Spring Registration to be held Saturday, May 2nd. Pee wee's @ 10am (ages 9 to 11), Junior Bantam @ 11am, (ages 12 to 13) and Bantam @ noon (ages 14 & 15 ). Golds to be announced later. Please refer to our website for contact info and registration forms.

Currently there are no major changes to leagues. Kamloops will be adding another team in each division as well as fielding a Bantam team this year. Also Cranbrook will probably be joining the bantam division as well. Exciting news for this year is that we will be again hosting a Junior exhibition game between the Kamloops Broncos and the Okanagan Sun on Sunday, July 26th, kick off 5pm. We will be asking for participation from all groups similar to last year to assist in this undertaking. As well there are plans to hold another "Football Day in Salmon Arm " event in September, date to be determined.

That's about it for now. Have a great spring, see you at the field!
