There is an account set up at Bill's Bottle Depot where anyone can donate the proceeds of their bottle returns to SMFA. You just have to tell the staff and they will apply your donation to our account. Proceeds go directly to the kids in the form of travel and entertainment expenses.

Chevy's (located in the Sun Wave Centre building) will be carrying football equipment such as cleats, mouthguards etc. starting at the beginning of May. They are a regular sponsor of our annual raffle and we can show our appreciation by checking out their inventory.

(April 24, 2010)

It is a bit like waiting for Christmas! The number of sleeps before kickoff is approaching the single digits. A handful of the high school boys have already geared up and hit the field at Hillltop Stadium in Kamloops. They seized the opportunity to show the Salmon Arm spirit and strut their stuff in an attempt to land a spot on Football BCs U18 provincial team. My fingers are crossed as we wait to hear the results of the tryouts. Good luck boys! As usual, you made us all proud.

SMFA is hosting an information night on Tuesday April 27th at 7:00 PM in the clubhouse at Little Mountain Sports Complex (LMSC). This is an annual event aimed at new parents and players although everyone is welcome! It is your opportunity to meet some of the executive and coaches as well as ask any questions that you may have. This promises to be an exciting year with the introduction of the Atom team. We look forward to seeing you there.

General registration is on Saturday May 1st at LMSC. We'll be set up from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Look for us on the field side near the locker/equipment rooms. Please make sure you bring a completed registration form (Click here for the 2010 registration form), a copy of your birth certificate and care card and 2 cheques. One cheque is for an equipment deposit and should be dated December 15th, payable for $200. The second cheque is for your registration and should be dated May 1st. If you need to make other financial arrangements please contact myself or our registrar, Shannon. Our contact information is on the website.

The only piece of equipment that you need to provide for your child to play football is cleats, SMFA supplies the rest. Having said that, cleats can be expensive and some of the kids can hit a growth spurt and go through several pairs in a season. With that in mind, we are trying to set up a cleat swap. Please clean up any pairs of cleats that your family has outgrown and bring them to registration with you. The used cleats will be available on a first come, first served basis throughout the season. Hopefully this will help everyone just a bit!

The second weekend in May is an opportunity for the high school players to once again hit the turf at Hillside Stadium and attend a 2 day training camp with the Kamloops Broncos. Shuswap Minor Football Association's director of coaching and Broncos head coach, Rob Ellis will be the man in charge. Check it out at www.kamloopsbroncos.com

The following weekend, May 15th and 16th, is the annual Pro-Am camp in Kelowna. It is a great camp to attend as players and parents! SMFA is committed to providing a group of volunteers to help at this camp so if you are planning to attend and want to volunteer please contact me at your earliest opportunity. As players, you get to meet and be coached by CFL and NFL stars and as parents, we get to watch the interaction and enjoy the show. Don't miss this opportunity if you can make it! Check it out at www.okanaganpro-amfootball.com

SMFA's spring camp commences on May 17th at 6:00 PM. Most of our practices will be at LMSC but occasionally we will be on the fields at Shuswap Middle School. Details on the spring camp schedule will be available at registration.

In an ongoing effort to raise funds for the extra events that the team moms arrange we have set up an account at Bill's Bottle Depot. Anytime you want to donate the proceeds from your bottle returns please let the staff at the bottle depot know and they will apply your refund to the SMFA account. In the past the monies raised have helped pay travel expenses, purchased individual trophies and provided food and beverages at the end of season party.

For Shuswap Minor Football Association, football is a way of life. We are committed to helping our players become better people and seeing your family become part of our football family. Join us on the sidelines when your child hits the gridiron. Meet people, get involved and have fun. It's a total package and we are determined to make it a great experience for everyone!

Looking forward to sharing the 2010 football season with you!

Theresa Jordan
SMFA President
